Riesling is considered by many experts to be the world's noblest white grape. It combines exquisite acidity with complex fruit and a unique ability to express terroir. Young Rieslings smell of citrus, peach and apricot. With ageing, the famous petrol aroma develops – a distinctive note of petroleum or waxed chalk that is actually a quality indicator. The grape thrives in cool Mosel, Alsace and the Rhineland in Europe. Styles range from bone-dry Spätlese to lusciously sweet Trockenbeerenauslese. The most important point: Riesling always retains high acidity, regardless of sweetness level.
