Margaret River in Western Australia is entirely different from Barossa: a maritime climate shaped by the Indian Ocean and Southern Ocean creates cool, even conditions. The region is known for elegant, structured Cabernet Sauvignon with vibrant acidity, and for world-class Chardonnay. Despite being small, Margaret River produces a disproportionately large share of Australia's premium wines. Semillon-Sauvignon Blanc blends are a regional speciality. The wines tend to be more restrained and age-worthy compared to the fuller Barossa style.
